Tuition Increase Revoked

Our voice has been heard.  It is our pleasure to announce that we, the student body, changed the future of the College of Medicine. The U of I Board of Trustees were presented with your concerns and based on your input, decided to retract the 21% increase in tuition.   The Board of Trustees was most impressed by the overwhelming support from the students, legislators, staff, and residents of Illinois.  Our incoming colleagues will see the same increase that we would have encountered, which is one that is at the rate of inflation.  We will continue to stress the importance of affordable medical education at our public institution, transparency, and work with the administration to address innovative ways to ensure that our tuition money is used in the students’ best interest. We are grateful to our allies and supporters who expressed their resounding spirit of the College of Medicine’s mission to its student’s; past, present and future.  You have been part of a monumental victory to not only sustain, but also further the COM’s mission and ongoing commitment to its students, the communities we serve, and the residents of Illinois.

Stop the Tuition Increase!

The University of Illinois College of Medicine just approved a 21% tuition hike, making it the most expensive public medical school in the country. This increase was made without any input from students, faculty, or the people of Illinois. It means the typical in state student will have about $300,000 in debt by the time he/she is finished with med school, over $450,000 if you are an out of state student. This unilateral decision means fewer students will be able to afford to go into primary care, aggravating a chronic shortage already suffered by our state.

Please help us reverse this decision. Sign our petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stop-the-tuition-increase-ui-same/
